Is your cloud storage device compliant?

For many businesses being HIPAA compliant and SOX compliant are an absolute must. I have gone through and complied a list of some of the more popular cloud storage networks and listed which ones are compliant with either HIPAA, SOX, or neither. Many business owners don’t even realize they aren’t meeting these requirements because it’s often an assumption that big name cloud storage networks like Google Drive would be both HIPAA and SOX compliant but it is not. Google Apps are compliant but not Google Drive.

Check the list below and see if you are using the right program to protect your data. If you are currently using one of these and it is not covering what you need it to, don’t hesitate to contact us. We will help you find what works best for you and your business!

HIPAA compliant:

  • Carbonite Pro
  • MozyPro
  • Box
  • Egnyte
  • SpiderOak
  • Tomahawk
  • Symform

SOX compliant:

  • Carbonite Pro
  • MozyPro
  • Box
  • Egnyte
  • SpiderOak
  • Tomahawk
  • Symform

These popular cloud storage devices are neither HIPAA nor SOX compliant:

  • Dropbox
  • Microsoft Skydrive
  • SugarSync
  • Google Drive
  • Apple’s iCloud

Here at My IT People we like to work with MozyPro because it is both HIPAA and SOX compliant and because as far as data backup it is one of the best methods. MozyPro is an automatic backup and we monitor it on a daily basis to make sure that process is actually happening for you. We work quickly to fix it if the backups fail to happen. You can retrieve data(documents etc.) on any device: smart phone, tablet, and laptops. If you are interested in more information on how to get this set-up with us feel free to send an email to info@myitpeople.com.
